>> It's not quite as expensive as seeing Bruce Springsteen but heading out to the ballgame is hardly a bargain these days. In fact the average ticket for a major league baseball game is almost $27 and that's just the average. Catch a New York Yankee's game and expect to shell out an average of $73 for a ticket. Add up food, drinks and parking and well you get the idea. So, here are a few pointers for ways to enjoy America's favorite past time without spending a small fortune. Number 1: Go when demand is low. Like airline tickets the prices of baseball tickets can depend on a range of factors; the day of the week, the time of the year even the popularity of the visiting team. So you'll generally get the best deals on early to mid week games against opponents who are not key rivals of the home team and who lack more key players. Number 2: Use the web. Some teams offer specials via their web sites or through the fan value section of MLB.com. Number 3: If you're going to buy from a scalper avoid the pros. Those are the guys with fistfuls of tickets outside ball park gates. Instead, look for the forlorn guy holding a kids hand who clearly wishes he was at the game and then wait until the first pitch when prices drop by the minute. Number 4: Pack your own food. Some teams The Mariners, The Braves, The Diamond Backs among them have brown bag friendly policies, so check your teams website. Now no one's gonna let you bring your own beer and the average stadium price for a 12 ouncer is almost $6 but some clever companies have designed products like the beer belly or the diary flask in a book that up your odds of successfully smuggling beer into the park. But if you get caught you didn't hear it from me.
