>> You may not know just how important it is to have a will. If you die intestate meaning without a will you're state makes all of these decisions for you and I gotta believe that you and your state have different ideas on who should raise your kids and who should inherit your stuff. Your will should do 3 things: Name an executor, appoint a guardian for your minor children and provide instructions as to how your assets will be divvied up. The executor is the person or institution that oversees the distribution of your assets. Your executor can be just about anyone; a friend, a relative, even a bank. Now about those assets: Some people provide detailed instructions within their will where they want every item to go, others draft a letter of instruction, that document details your wishes but is attached to your will. That means you can change your instructions at any time without having to redraft the entire will. Because a will is a legal document I think it's worth spending 500 bucks or so to hire a lawyer. The whole process should take 5-10 hours, a pretty small investment of time considering the importance of the issue.
